Played the Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley demo

First of all the art and music are so gorgeous. The watercolor effect and paper texture are enchanting. I felt soothed just watching the intro. It's very moomin-y and made me remember how I felt when I first discovered the books. When you walk through puddles, there's the sound of splashing water, and when you cross a log bridge, it sounds like hollow wood. Ideal vibe.

I did try *cough* to jump off the cliffs and stuff... but no, you can't kill yourself in this game, bahahaha. Unsurprising but Idk I've played Sims too long and "how can I kill everyone" has become my modus operandi. Not even Moomins are safe.

You pretty much just use space bar, S, and A, so playing was easy. I encountered some trouble when jumping at times, but Idk if that was jumps being glitchy or just me still getting the hang of it.

Snufkin in this is freakishly strong. Able to carry rocks while jumping across a rushing river and push a giant boulder around. Superstrength!! But it is a lot of fun, really, running and jumping everywhere, climbing things... I got stuck at one point where you have to climb behind a waterfall, because I didn't think you could climb horizontally!

Now this game stars Snufkin, but don't be fooled, it's really a Snufkin roast. You watch Teety-woo (who is leading the tutorial basically) follow Snufkin around getting ignored for ages x'D and he's so complimentary the whole time that it morphs into an insult. The rest of the time, in the name of helping, he does a lot of nothing and you stop feeling bad about ignoring him bahahahaha.

Your "mighty" harmonica x'D has the ability to calm and charm other creatures and make them fall in love with you. I don't care what anyone says, I love this whole music therapy angle. I also like finding inspiration in random bushes. It WAS a bit weird to use the harmonica on this Creep only so he could give me a boost up the cliff lol what was wrong with stacking rocks?

But the harmonica's best use is DEFINITELY hypnotizing birds and then launching them at a target. Who need guns when you have birds?? Seriously this was way too much fun, who knew Looney Tunes humor would be this amusing to me as a full grown adult :P

You get quests, like "rescue all the baby birds." But whenever you feel like it you can fuck off and go fishing for a while. Sorry mama! I didn't notice any game-related effect from it, like catching actual fish. So idk if that's the way it's meant to be, for relaxing, or if I'm just stupid.

I was a little confused when I got like three quests and didn't see how I'd made any progress on any of them. Then all of a sudden the mama bird, who says "woo" when she's sad and "teety" when she's happy, led to the completion of the "Find a name" quest. And I love Teety-woo praising the existential beauty of his own name, and then fucking off to pay some bills. The great Snufkin who?? I've got responsibilities!

Oh no... signs! Oh no... a park! Being asked to look after it is pretty funny! But the ensuing complete and total property destruction is even funnier!

Not even kidding, Snufkin demolishes this park. It was really fun! This game isn't hard, but for someone who doesn't play games, it wasn't too mindlessly simple for me either. I enjoyed dodging the park keepers, launching birds at their heads, and yeeting signs into oblivion.

And we end with the discovery that Moominvalley has dried up and Moomintroll is nowhere to be found! An excellent prologue. I'm definitely looking forward to this game. I like the idea of a game that has both relaxing elements and more energetic ones without being too terribly kiddie (of course it's perfect for kids, I'm just saying, as an adult, I wasn't bored), as well as one that is whimsical and silly without losing emotional depth, with manageable, personal stakes. The demo definitely didn't take me very long to get through and I have no idea how long the full game will be. But long or short, the story seems promising.

2.1 Penacony thoughts [part1]

**Mild spoiler warning** until the first moment we switch to Aventurine’s POV in the story and I don’t think much has happened yet, but if you haven’t reached that point yet, then turn away anyway if you wish I’m just gonna ramble a bit here and toss my thoughts into the void for my own reference.

Firstly, the return of the odd yellow text and Aventurine calling us ~fuh-riends~ in that hilarious and exaggerated tone of his.

Makes me wonder whom else has perished during their time in Penacony, and if it’s true, then the Family certainly has experience with covering such things up which raises many other concerns. Also gives me another reason to not fully trust Sunday.

Oh teehee~ We got Aventurine’s number. And some extra credits due to my responses, HA. sugardaddy

As we learned from a beautifully animated dance animation, Black Swan certainly knows how dangerous Acheron can be.

he whole flashback with Duke & Acheron was pretty good. It at least gives us more context rather than us being told he was killed offscreen, but still confirms the dude is dead, though he mentions the kids are alive, somehow. Duke also guessed that Acheron’s an Emanator (though he’s wrong about which path), then there was some important music box that gets brought up later on, and Acheron speaks of her sword that has indeed been sheathed this entire time, even during the 2.0 story.

At the very end of the scene it fades to black and Acheron full says: “May death be the end of your boundless dream, guiding you back to the waking world,” which I remember is the exact thing she said after witnessing Firefly’s death.

Sweetie, you’re a big mystery but it does not surprise me in the slightest to learn that you’re wanted by the IPC after witnessing your power in your many trailers. Hearing her speak about the Stellaron Hunters though made me think back to her character trailer, since I wondered if she even knew who was attacking her in the first place, but perhaps she did, even if the trio was nothing but Sparkle’s tricky illusions.

It was kinda funny seeing her get lost occasionally in the hotel during the previous story update, but now I feel bad knowing that she has horrible memory. Having to rely on your emotions seems quite challenging if you don’t have a good control of them, but she seems to be fairing well enough.

Tell us your suspicions Acheron! I mean, I have my guesses as well, but I’d take your word over anyone else’s.

It was at this moment where I had a real random idea and thought, “huh, could this be Boothill?” I found it strange how they revealed him to us when we haven’t even met the dude in game yet, like he really came in outta nowhere for me. But seeing Sam again and realizing how both of them have robotic bodies.. I dunno. I thought it could’ve been an extra set of armor or something.

Of course it makes no sense, since Sam & Boothill have different voice actors anyways, but still, the way Acheron speaks so familiar to him, as if they were both truly galaxy rangers, gave me second thoughts for just a brief moment. Nothing more. Just a small silly idea.

The return of the worrisome red text, capable of causing anxiety even through such a small word. With her horrible memory, I assume she’s not even sure what she’s supposed to be doing in life, so asking about Elio’s script and if she’s included made me think she’s trying to learn about her purpose and her own goals.

Say it loud, mom! We shall NOT. TRUST. ANYONE! And at this moment I seriously don’t. If they ain’t from the Express then you’re sus. Case closed.

Glad to see Danny boy lending us a helping hand from the train, but red text begone! First learning about how Acheron has terrible memory and now we can’t even remember her well? That can’t be good.

I firmly believed that if you die in the dream, you would just wake up in real life, so thank whatever Aeon you fancy that we’re finally getting the idea to head back into reality to confirm if Firefly and Robin are still alive. Maybe we should check up on those couple npcs that passed away during side quests too.

The way I held my breath.. I don’t even know much about HI3 but I’m aware our grandpa is more or less the same guy, so seeing him interact with some like Acheron, oh dear. The way Acheron still didn’t reveal her true name to him made me more wary too. I get she might not even remember, because poor memory, but hmmm.

I can understand her having some Stellaron Hunter knowledge because she’s wanted just like them, but ma’am why do you know this?? especially since the Family doesn’t even know the truth about Welt’s cane apparently.

Can’t lie, a fight between him and Acheron would be a spectacle. Who do you think would win?

Again, how does she know this? Has she been chatting with Aventurine? because he figured out our stellaron last patch too.

First thought: yay, she’s worried about us. Second thought: why would she be concerned about Black Swan? Shouldn’t it be the other way around after their dance? Third thought: What exactly is Black Swan capable of and how frightened should I be right now? Fourth thought: Acheron, why do you know so much about others??

So this music box.. why exactly does Black Swan have it now? Didn’t Acheron snatch it from Duke Inferno? Was she planning to give it to BS, or did memokeeper steal it off her? I dunno.

Is it me or does it feel like she’s talking to someone else? Another memokeeper? Or just to herself for dramatic effect? Either way, who exactly are we expecting to show up?

I honestly was getting a bit creeped out during this scene, from the weird camera angles the game was giving is to seeing Black Swan not understand what was going on or who was speaking to her. I actually started fearing for her life and I made a stunning realization that if they killed off BS I would actually freak out. Surprisingly, I wasn’t too upset over Firefly (we didn’t spend much time with her), but it feels like we’ve know BS for longer you know? Ever since that trailer about all the Aeons.

I can hear Luocha somewhere in the distance going “the dead return!” I tease, but actually hearing one of those from Ever-Flame Mansion call out to BS was a bit confusing? Duke said his kids were alive, sure, but BS is looking at past memories attached to the music box, right? So I’m still a bit on the fence regarding who out of the kids are actually alive. Maybe some, maybe all. Maybe I’m being played for a fool and thinking about it too much.

How many of y’all got excited to see Ratio interact with Aventurine again? I know you people are out there. Anyways, hearing about how Robin had a stand-in leads me to believe her death was planned, which would upset me greatly because what did that precious lady ever do to anyone??

It’s crazy this man has actually tried several times to end himself inside the dreams, like bro what if you actually succeeded?? At least this shod bring us some relief that Firefly and Robin are okay? Hopefully? I’ll believe when I see them.

I freakin' knew there was something wrong with her voice!! The first couple times we meet her you can tell her voice sounded off, like it was glitching out or something. It’s not very easy to hear, but the difference between the real Robin and Sparkle impersonating Robin towards the end of the last patch sounded different. No wonder Sunday picked up on Sparkle’s trick so easily.

Soooo, that’s pretty much everything I went through after the update hit. Unfortunately it isn’t much but adulting is a drag. Of course I’m looking forward to continuing the story later on. Starting with these men again will be a treat too.

tbh there’s 3 reasons for this (but i think the first 2 go hand in hand)

reason 1: i got older and felt a lil weird about writing for a certain character/series. this explains why i stopped writing for asoue and IT. i was probably 13 or 14 (i honestly have no idea specifically, but im sure i was in middle school/about to start high school) when i started writing for those characters, bc i liked them and i was around the age as them. but im 18 now, and although i could just clarify in requesting rules and fics that the characters would be aged up, i just decided to stop writing for them. eventually, this’ll happen for other series like mitm and mbav (unfortunately, where my writing is most popular💀💀). the only reason it hasn’t rn is bc with mitm, we see grown up (18+) versions of the characters (the ones i write for at least) (i know the losers club is grown up in chapter 2, but ill touch on that in reason 2) and with mbav, for the LONGEST time i thought that they were all upperclassmen like i was, so in my head and while writing, they are upperclassmen and like 17-18 years old.

reason 2: i just became less interested in the series. this kinda applies to all 3 of my discontinued masterlists, but again mainly asoue and IT. don’t get me wrong, i still love and appreciate them, but writing wise i just wasn’t feeling it anymore.

reason 3: people weren’t asking for it. this MAJORLY applies to tmr. i had gally on my writing list for probably 3 years (i took him/tmr off maybe a month or so ago idrk) and despite all the likes and stuff that it gets (i think it still gets some interaction every now and then), ive only had one person ask for a gally fic. and that was almost 2 years ago !! (i know that people not asking for something doesn’t mean that i shouldn’t write for it, but when a lot of my work is requested, it’s kinda like “what’s the point?”)

so yea, that’s why asoue, IT, and tmr are now discontinued masterlists. sorry to all my mitm and mbav lovers, but soon (idk how soon lol) i’ll stop writing for these two as well. in fact, one day (in the distant future dw) i’ll stop writing fanfiction completely. but if you like the way i write, i have a few story ideas that im either toying with or currently trying to write teehee

in all honesty!!!!!! the story i want to bring into the world itself :) i genuinely think that. when i write because i love a story idea so much and it connects to me and speaks to me in a way that i find unique and special i just feel like getting to make the story Real and partake in that experience... so good. its something i haven't properly learned to appreciate until recently tbh but its made everything so very special. also i like entertaining people!!!! love seeing reactions to my brain worms teehee

8. is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why?

most: HMMM i dont know BUT i have found writing for PLAGG so interestingly fun. especially the plagg and adrien ch2 scene in tvl. i genuinely find him so so funny in it. in general i love writing for lovesquare and core four bc creating fun banter hits spots in my head... as for least...... anyone idc about? i keep stories tight w as few characters as i possibly can usually. unless theres a specific bit i wanna do u wouldnt catch me dead putting the whole miracuclass in a scene. and in general!!! i would say in tvl the most characters u see are like core four and some random characters peppered in here and there. but i tend to take a Sometimes Stories Are Just Two People Talking approach to most scenes

but HONESTLY that is such a look... if Danny just started somehow synthesizing fear toxin to exhale. not quite what i'm going for here (the opposite teehee!) but if u dont mind me blabbing...

as an AU of this, Fear Toxin doesn't work on Danny like it's supposed to on people. It's like laughing gas at the dentist, or if given enough and strong enough dose... close to abuse of methadone treatment or other hard drugs.

it gets him quite high as a kiiiteee.

because in this instance, some things didn't happen in the OG AU, so Danny fell harder into various drug abuses. The cursed energy of Gotham is a bad substitute for ectoplasm -- it works sorta kinda, but not even close as well, and the guy doesn't know he needs it like a rechargeable battery and his core is trying it's best to, well.

keep him alive.

so the more he gets hurt, the more he gets ill, the more he doesn't take care of himself, the more he seeks out something to... alleviate that pain because alcohol (og substance abuse) just aint cutting it anymore.

and one day Danny is like "what does fear toxin even do" and fucks around and finds out.

Crane eventually is like "who is this random weirdo who keeps following my fear attacks like a fanboy?" and lo and behold --- someone just like him it doesn't really work on.

crane: i'll give u a steady supply of this if I can test variants on you danny: sounds legit

this is almost where it's similar to methadone treatment -- Danny drops any other substances for fear toxin. for the most part anyway.

but now Crane has someone who's kinda smart?? weirdly caring??? who while being tested on is like "yo why do u do this anyway? curious minds wanna know" and it's all downhill (uphill?) from there lol

they become bestieeesss. Crane is very possessive of him, but, uh, u know... this stuff requires money, and at some point someone learns Danny has some powers that can get info out of people (overshadowing) and hires him out.

Danny is very expensive, dw, so it only happens like once or twice.

and somehow... when he breathes fear toxin in, it comes out de-synthesized? like when we breath out air, it's basically carbon dioxide, etc etc as our lungs capture the oxygen

but at the same time, instead of finding a catatonic Jason in this AU, he meets tiny Tim during Death in the Family getting mugged on the way back from Bludhaven

The pads of the man's fingers are soft beneath Tim's chin, and he's gentle in tipping his face upward. The kindness ends there, however. “Sucks to be you, huh,” rasps from within the deep shadow of the sack-like hood. Deep. Hoarse. Vaguely… familiar with an outside accent. “How old are you anyway?” “Old enough,” Tim replies evenly. That gets a hum, and then a deep inhale. A bright line of noxious green appears, highlighting the rubbery cord of a nasal cannula and freckled cheeks, the gleam of blue eyes. Tim stiffens. Is that— Cruelly, an exhale follows. Tim’s breath stutters as a cloud of mint flows from the man's mouth and breaks across his face. Fear toxin. Shit. He kicks a little, jerking his chin free, and forcibly exhales his half a breath, but. But all it takes is just even a little. His heartbeat thunders in his ears, but even under that he can hear the man's light laugh. “Sorry, sorry, that was mean, wasn't it?” he says, and tentatively places a hand in Tim's hair, threading his fingers through the locks. The cold touch makes Tim grit his teeth, nearly take another breath. “They paid good money to borrow me, not the gas, so don't worry about it, okay? Just think about quitting after this, go to college or something. Move very, very far away.” What a joke.

more Dark Urge oc thoughts. I have two of them: Veren and Ilryn : )

Veren is very much the favourite child of the two because he's the 'redeemed' run (after FFXIV I need a good ending fix okay) whereas Ilryn is the 'I'm a special little Bhaal boy so I'm gonna deliver a dead world to dear old dad because I'm Soooo special teehee' run but

what they have in common is that they are viciously defensive of their loved ones - Veren adores the entire crew, and while his favourite is Astarion as his lover, Ilryn's favourite is Gale and basically only Gale.

Veren has the entire crew you can get ingame minus Minthara for 'good run' reasons, whereas Ilryn does not have Halsin, Jaheira and won't have Minsc either. He has Minthara, though.

Ilryn didn't side with the goblin camp - he in fact does not side with either party and simply leaves because his priority is himself (and later Gale). He is not being evil at this point, it's simply about survival and he doesn't care about a bunch of random Tieflings making it to Baldur's Gate. They probably won't get there anyway if several Mind Flayers are born nextdoor, too.

Veren on the other hand has a golden retriever personality sometimes and also figures that if his brain is hissing and spitting like a vicious baby kitten at the idea of Helping People then he is in fact doing a Good Thing and Should Do It (also if Astarion whines - he likes Astarion but he's an ass) so he stays to help to the best of his ability. Surely he should be helping because he's Strong and they aren't, right? That's what the Strong should do! (this also pisses Astarion off therefore it must be Correct)

Both of them also want what's best for their respective lovers, but Ilryn's idea of 'best' is making Gale into a God. In his mind, this is the only way he can keep Gale to himself without upsetting Bhaal. If Gale ascends to Godhood, Bhaal can't touch him, and he can deliver what was promised once. Gale is strong, smart, and he was once an Archmage and fellow Chosen - he's the *perfect* partner to Ilryn.

Obviously this is tricky so I have to iron out details but like Ilryn wants to be selfish for this one thing so badly just as Dark Urge was with Gortash in some ways; minus Ilryn actually giving a shit about Gortash. He actually was not romantically involved with the man at all but respected him to a degree - but was totally just playing along with the plan to use him.

Veren was totally head over heels for the guy and was Very Close to chucking it all away to protect Gortash but obviously it never happens because of Orin and the lobotomy.

Ilryn is very pro like, using people to further goals whereas Veren is apprehensive for the most part unless they Really Need To Die. Like he is in no way ever going to take pity on Some people and Will indulge his Urges from time to time - Ilryn however will almost always try to shove them down because he is killing for Himself and Himself only unless it furthers the plan for Bhaal.

Bhaal can wait for the glorious dead world; he'll deliver them all when it's time, and he wants and needs total control of himself for that to happen, it's too delicate a task. Veren cries when he kills Quill. :) (Fun fact I actually failed the rolls not to Urge Astarion my first run and let that play out and while I adore that stupid knife cat smile the fucker does after the camp wakes up, it wasn't planned for at all so I reloaded lmao.)

Veren also desperately longs for his old memories even though he knows it will disgust him, and has talked at length with Astarion that even though he rejects who he used to be, he still feels very empty knowing that there's a whole life locked away to him that he'll never be able to retrieve. For obvious reasons, Astarion can sympathize - and part of that sympathy extended to Veren befriending Gortash again. (Well, trying to. I am staring directly at Larian for spoiler related reasons that was COWARDLY!!!)

Ilryn completely rejects it because it's not relevant anymore. He has a problem ahead of him Now and that's more important, and so is Gale's problem. (Oh also he totally intends to let Astarion ascend even after learning the cost because SHRUGS, one more powerful ally for him! Neat.)

Basically what I'm getting at here is Ilryn is Bhaal's favourite but Veren is my favourite DAGNJKSGDF

I just am glad I made two of them because Ilryn was originally going to just be an evil run for Veren but he kind of evolved into his own shitty little character, oops.
